Career in Real Estate
Interested in a career in Real Estate? Making a choice for your career path can be an exciting one and if that choice is to enter the field of sales, then real estate can offer you a very rewarding lifestyle and assurance that you are helping people with one of the most important decisions they will make.

Pre-Licensure:

The first step in obtaining your real estate license is successful completion of a pre-licensing course.

In Virginia, you will need to successfully complete an approved 60 hour pre-licensing course. Courses are offered throughout the year at various locations in the area. John Stewart Walker, Inc. is a facility location for Moseley School of Real Estate classes, so we teach on site.

Candidates must then complete the following steps to become a licensed real estate sales person:

* Register for and pass the Virginia State Licensing Exam. A $60.00 examination fee is payable directly to PSI Exams

• Submit an application form, your completion certificate and $170.00 to the Va. Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
• See other requirements at DPOR.Virginia.gov

Once you pass the State Licensing Exam, you’ll receive a provisional license. This means you are now able to represent buyers and sellers in real estate transactions at any firm within the state where you are licensed. Your license must be placed with a brokerage in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Post-Licensing Courses

In order to maintain your license, you’ll be required to complete 30 hours of post-licensing coursework to remove the “provisional” status. This must be completed within the first 12 months of licensure.

Continuing Education

After your first renewal date, you will then be required to complete 16 hours of continuing education every two years in order to maintain your license.
